Built between 1839 and 1852 in Egyptian revival style, the design for Fort Trumbull was based on the ancient Egyptian Temple of Luxor. The inspiration is most clearly visible in the five sided, four bastion, layout of the fort and the entranceway with a cavetto cornice and sloped pylon shape.
